Introduction

to

Hynotherapy

Open a doorway of opportunities...

Learn how to easily

and effectively explore problems,

address issues,

achieve change and

deeply relax...

All in one weekend!

What exactly is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a normal state of mind.  It is a state of mind that all of us go in and out of naturally throughout the day.

Can you recall ever driving somewhere and not remember driving for the last few minutes?  Or being so engrossed in a movie that you completely lose awareness of your surroundings?

Well that is a state of hypnosis!

It is a naturally occurring state of deep relaxation.  In this altered state of consciousness a person is much more able to use therapeutic suggestions, explore problems and address issues to achieve effective change.

Wouldn't it be useful to learn that for yourself?

Firstly though, let's clear up some common misconceptions about hypnosis so that we know what we're talking about here.

This is what hypnosis is NOT:

  • Hypnosis is NOT a creepy guy standing in front of you with a pendulous pocket watch until you go into a trance.
  • Hypnosis is NOT about mind control and manipulation.
  • Hypnosis is NOT about humiliation and acting like a 'chicken when the bell rings' or 'barking like a dog' as seen in various stage shows.
  • Hypnosis is NOT of an occult or magical nature.
  • Hypnosis is NOT something that only works on people with a weak and suggestible mind.
  • A state of hypnosis cannot be induced against a person's will.
  • It is untrue that a person knows nothing of what happens during a hypnotherapy session.
  • It is untrue that a person may not wake up from hypnosis.
  • It is untrue that hypnosis is dangerous.

It is really important to understand that  when in a state of hypnosis, no one can make you act in a way that defies your own moral and social acceptable behaviour.  Unless you want to, you cannot be manipulated against your own will!

Even when in a state of deep relaxation or trance, there is a part of you that witnesses the whole process and remains in control.

It is also important to note that memories that emerge from a hypnotherapy session are not necessarily accurate.  There are ethical guidelines that are explored over the weekend which explain  the powerful nature of suggestion.

Inappropriate suggestions made during the hypnotic state can lead to false memories.  Therefore, it is essential to be aware of appropriate language.

So now that you know hypnosis is a safe

and natural state of being,

let's look at the benefits and process

In this weekend course, although you will not gain any formal certifications, you will learn how to induce a self-hypnotic state.

Now some people insist that hypnosis is a load of rubbish, and that they certainly could not be hypnotised.  Well let's explore from a physiological point of view what is going on in the body

Firstly, we need to acknowledge the brain as an organ that emits measurable electromagnetic activity.  This can be measured through such means as an EEG (Electroencephalogram) and is referred to in terms of amplitude and frequency in waves.

These waves come in 4 levels, and vary depending on the type of brain activity that occurs as seen below:

The BETA waves are the fastest and probably what you are experiencing right now.  They are present during active conversation, logical thinking or when you are engaged in work.

This is great, but too much BETA (which is common!) can also mean anxiety, stress, tension and an impaired ability to focus clearly and think straight.

BETA is not a state where you can retain much information, nor can you recall it!  However, when your brainwaves slow down a little to ALPHA...

As you relax you become able to access your own intelligence,

more focused,

and more powerful to yourself.

So this is not airy fairy stuff.  This is scientifically validated that the ALPHA brain waves are present in a reflective, meditative, non-aroused state.

ALPHA is that feeling when you put your feet up after a long day, close your eyes, and sigh!  It is the gentle state of reflection as you walk through a garden or sit down to meditate.

They have been dubbed the brainwaves for superlearning as the mind goes into a relaxed but alert state.  In this state, you are better able to learn information and retain it.  There is a general sense of calm and wellbeing.  You are most often in a pleasant mood in this state.

Imagine slowing down your

mind more and more

at your own will...

As this deepens and the waves slow even further, you enter the realm of THETA.  This is one of deep relaxation, tranquillity and inspired creativity.

THETA is a very positive mental state where mental ideas flow freely and easily, and you feel wonderfully at ease.  Many try to get to this state by meditation, and it can be difficult! Most often it happens spontaneously when we become entranced in a task such as driving or gardening.

So what's the point of all this babble about brain waves?  Well surely you have noticed a correlation between the speed of the brainwaves and the accompanying positive qualities?

ALPHA and THETA states offer calm, relaxation, alertness, creativity and more...

All of these qualities are induced by the

process of hypnosis!

This is why hypnosis works both on yourself (self-hypnosis) and others.  Because as your brain waves physiologically change, your mind becomes more adaptable and more open.

You are able to access information at a level that you cannot in a normal BETA state of mind.

You are able to learn, retain and recall information that lies in your subconscious mind - a realm which you don't normally have direct access to!

Imagine having safe access

to your own mind!!

So let's go back and recap again for a moment.

The hypnotic state is a trance-like state where our focus has been narrowed to a point of being free of distractions.

Trance states can be induced by a variety of means... Day dreaming... dance... meditation... cooking... gardening... walking or exercising... and the list goes on.

The focus of attention in these instances may be internal - such as on the breath, an internal image, or thoughts - or external like in the instance of being fixated on a task or a movie.

In this state, the body physiologically changes.  Not only can we become deeply relaxed and calm, but we become more open to accessing deeply held subconscious beliefs and effecting change.

There is great therapeutic value in this.  There is also the opportunity to address issues that you may be experiencing without the annoying interference of the conscious mind!
